HACKETTSTOWN, N.J. – Seniors
Taylor Bossert and
Victoria Jacobs combined for 33 points as the Centenary University women's basketball team fell to Marymount University, 63-53 in Atlantic East action on Thursday night.
Back-to-back three-pointers from Bossert helped the Cyclones open up a 6-2 lead in the first period.
Marymount scored the next eight points in the game took a 10-6 lead with 4:32 remaining in the stanza.
The two teams traded points over the final four and a half minutes of the period and Marymount took a 14-11 lead after one.
Kyla Treadwell scored six of the first eight points in the second period and helped Marymount push its lead to 20-13 with 7:52 to go until the break.
A 5-0 run powered by Bossert and sophomore
Salma Eddahiri pulled Centenary to within three, 22-19 with 4:46 showing on the clock.
Marymount scored 12 of the next 15 points in the game and pushed its lead to 34-22 at the 1:53 mark.
The Saints eventually took a 35-24 lead at the half.
Centenary opened the third quarter on an 8-1 run and pulled to within four, 36-32 with 7:02 left on the clock. Jacobs scored five of the eight during that stretch.
Marymount scored seven of the next nine and extended its lead to 43-34 with 4:09 left on the period. The two teams continued to battle as a three-pointer from
Symantha Shackelford allowed the Saints to push its lead to 51-38 with 1:06 remaining.
Bossert hit a pair of free throws late but Marymount led 51-40 after three.
The Cyclones and Saints continued to battle on both ends of the court as the fourth quarter got underway.
Senior
Molly Collins got the Cyclones to within nine, 62-53 with her bucket at 49 seconds.
The Saints eventually closed out the 63-53 win.
Centenary shot 34.6% from the floor and was 11-for-12 from the foul line. Marymount shot 47.9% from the field and was 13-for-18 from the foul line. The Saints won the rebounding battle, 38-23.
Bossert finished with a team-high 20 points and two assists while Jacobs added 13 points, eight rebounds and three steals. Eddahiri contributed 11 points.
Chandler Eddleton led Marymount with 28 points and five rebounds.
Centenary closes out the regular season when it hosts Immaculata at 1 p.m. on Saturday, Feb. 19. The Cyclones will honor seniors
