SCRANTON, Pa. – The Centenary University men's soccer team fell in a hard-fought 2-0 contest at Marywood University to open Atlantic East Conference play on Wednesday evening.
The first half was a back-and-forth affair between the two squads. Just 1:36 into the game
Shane Wilson put a shot on goal that forced
Alex Russo to make the save.
Centenary outshot Marywood, 9-5 in the first 45 minutes but the two sides went into the break tied at 0-0.
The Cyclones and Pacers battled on both ends of the field to start the second half.
Marywood was finally able to break through at 65:51 as
Danny Gomez scored off an assist from
Trey Watson and
David Chemidlin.
Centenary fired off a pair of shots but was unable to connect.
Marywood added to its lead at 81:49 on a goal from
Richard Fuchs.
The Cyclones fired off another pair of shots but was unable to get one home as Marywood claimed the 2-0 victory.
Russo finished with 10 saves in the win for the Pacers.
Andrew Tarkazikis finished with six saves for the Cyclones.
Centenary is back in action on Saturday, Oct. 8 when it hosts Marymount at 1 p.m. The Cyclones will honor seniors
