HACKETTSTOWN, N.J. – The Centenary University volleyball team battled through eight ties and three lead changes for a 3-0 victory over Immaculata University in Atlantic East play on Saturday afternoon.
The Cyclones took the match by scores of 25-23, 25-22 and 25-22. Centenary reached the 10-win mark for the first time since 2011 season. The Cyclones have two conference wins in a season for the first time since 2015.
Centenary jumped out to an early 6-2 lead in the first set as
Mya Burnett had a pair of blocks. A 6-0 run put Immaculata on top 15-10. The two teams continued to battle as Immaculata pushed its lead to 23-17 on an
Isabelle Davis service ace. Centenary responded with an 8-0 run to close out a 25-23 set win.
Alyssa Bizzarro had a kill and a block in that stretch.
The Cyclones quickly opened up a 7-0 advantage to start the second set. Bizzarro and
Cameron Fulcher each had a pair of kills during that scoring spurt. Centenary pushed its lead to 11-3 on a kill from Burnett. Immaculata battled back to tie the set at 18-18. However, a service ace from
Martina Josifoska helped the Cyclones grab a 21-18 edge. The two teams traded points before an attack error by the Mighty Macs gave Centenary a 25-22 set win.
A kill from Bizzarro allowed the home team to take a 7-3 advantage to start the third set. A pair of kills from Fulcher and one from
Pamela Mejia helped Centenary extend its lead to 11-9. Five straight kills from Burnett put the Cyclones ahead 18-11. The two teams traded points before a kill from Bizzarro closed out a 25-22 set win.
Burnett led the Cyclones with 14 kills while
Vanessa Pagano dished out 30 assists. Josifoska contributed a match-high 21 digs and two service aces while Bizzarro finished with 16 digs, nine kills and two service aces.
Davis finished with eight kills and six digs for Immaculata.
Centenary wraps up the Atlantic East portion of its schedule when it hosts Cabrini on Wednesday, Oct. 26 at 7 p.m.
