HACKETTSTOWN, N.J. – Junior
Rebecca Kopf's second half goal proved to be the difference maker as the Centenary University women's soccer team celebrated Senior Day with a 2-1 win over Immaculata University in Atlantic East play.
Prior to the start of their final home game of the season, the women's soccer team honored seniors
Brelyn Cusano,
Jackie Epp and
Chelsea Estacio for their contributions to the program.
Immaculata applied the pressure early with five shots in the first 16 minutes of the game, three of which required saves by Estacio.
The two teams traded shots as neither team was able to break through in the first 30+ minutes of the contest.
Centenary was awarded a penalty kick chance at the 35:13 mark and Cusano converted. Her fourth goal of the season gave the home team the 1-0 advantage.
The two sides went into the half with Centenary leading 1-0.
The Cyclones wasted little time adding to their lead in the second half. Sophomore
Eve Haddad hit Kopf with the perfect pass at 49:37 and Kopf punched it home for her fourth goal of the season.
Centenary and the Mighty Macs had their chances down the stretch. Immaculata finally broke through with a goal at 88:32 as
Jessica Gindle tucked one past Estacio.
However, that was all the scoring in the contest and Centenary claimed the 2-1 win.
Estacio made five saves to earn the win in goal for the Cyclones.
Emily Guthier made one save in the loss for Immaculata.
Centenary wraps up the regular season when it visits Neumann on Wednesday, Oct. 26 at 4 p.m.
