IMMACULATA, Pa. –
Kevin Velasquez Mejia made seven saves, including one on a penalty kick in the second half, which helped the Centenary University men's soccer team battle for a 1-1 tie at Immaculata University in Atlantic East play on Saturday afternoon.
Velasquez Mejia made two early stops for the Cyclones.
Immaculata broke through with a goal at 21:07 as
Dylan Walter scored off a pass from
Justin Hahn.
Shane Wilson and
Besnik Hadzovic fired off shots for Centenary, but they were turned away by the Mighty Macs keeper.
The two teams continued to battle before the Cyclones were able to get the equalizer at the 38:14 mark.
Harison Samayoa Lopez hit
Kevin Lopez with a pass, and he was able to punch it home for his second goal of the season.
Lopez got off one more shot, but it went wide, and the two sides went into the half tied at 1-1.
Both teams had their chances early in the second half, but neither could find the back of the net.
Immaculata was awarded a penalty kick at 70:06 but Velasquez Mejia got a hand on
John Bohrer's shot and turned it away.
The Cyclones and Mighty Macs continued to battle but neither could convert, and the game ended in a 1-1 tie.
Velasquez Mejia finished with the seven saves in the tie for the Cyclones.
John Wilhelm contributed eight saves for the Mighty Macs.
Centenary returns home to close out the regular season by hosting Neumann on Wednesday, Oct. 26 at 3 p.m.
