Women's Basketball Falls on the Road at Immaculata

IMMACULATA, Pa. – Taylor Bossert and Kaylie Elsbree each scored 11 points but it was not enough as the Centenary University women's basketball team fell 56-38 at Immaculata University in Atlantic East action on Saturday afternoon.

Centenary jumped out to a quick 5-0 lead behind a Bossert triple. However, Immaculata responded with a 9-0 run and took a four-point advantage, 9-5 with 4:27 left in the period.

A big three-pointer from Elsbree pulled the Cyclones to within one, 9-8 with 4:14 showing on the clock.

Immaculata closed the quarter on an 8-3 run and took a 17-11 lead after 10 minutes of action.

Centenary scored five of the first seven points in the second quarter and pulled to within three, 19-16 with 9:03 left until the half.

The two teams continued to battle over the remainder of the second stanza as Immaculata took a 27-18 lead at the break.

The Cyclones and Mighty Macs struggled to find their rhythm in the third period as the two sides combined for just 17 points.

Bossert made 1-of-2 from the foul line late in the period as Immaculata held a 36-26 lead after three periods of play.

Immaculata opened the fourth quarter on a 13-0 run and pushed its lead to 49-26 with 5:38 to go in the game.

The two teams continued to battle down the stretch as Immaculata closed out the 56-38 win.

Centenary shot 32.6% from the field and connected on five three-pointers. Immaculata shot 32.3% from the floor and was aided by going 15-for-19 from the foul line. Centenary won the rebounding battle, 43-35.

Bossert finished with 11 points, four rebounds and three assists while Elsbree had 11 points and six rebounds. Senior Victoria Jacobs led the Cyclones on the boards with 10.

Theresa Kearney led Immaculata with 16 points and six rebounds.

Centenary is back in action on Wednesday, Jan. 26 when it hosts Cabrini at 6 p.m.
