IMMACULATA, Pa. – Graduate student
Chris LaBelle scored 27 points and broke the school record for career field goals made but it was not enough as the Centenary University men's basketball fell to Immaculata University, 92-82 on Saturday afternoon in Atlantic East play.
LaBelle's three-pointer at 10:32 of the second half gave him 536 career field goals made which broke
Rashaan Spencer's mark of 535 set between 2014-18.
Centenary quickly opened up a 10-2 lead as senior
Harrison Lucibello hit a pair of free throws at the 15:34 mark.
Back-to-back buckets from LaBelle gave the visitors a 17-11 lead with 10:46 to go until the half.
An 8-0 run gave Immaculata a 21-19 edge with 7:46 left in the period.
A pair of free throws from sophomore
Trevor Giordano put the visitors back on top, 25-23 with 6:08 to go on the clock.
A 10-0 run that featured three three-pointers allowed Immaculata to take a 35-27 advantage with 2:39 to go until the break.
Centenary scored the final four points of the half on baskets from sophomore
Isaac Poueriet and Lucibello but Immaculata took a 37-35 lead at the break.
Immaculata opened the second half on an 11-3 run and took a 48-38 lead with 17:09 to go in the game.
A jumper from LaBelle at 15:25 pulled the Cyclones to within six, 48-42.
The two teams continued to battle as a three-pointer from
Brandon McCullough gave Immaculata a 64-53 advantage.
The Cyclones and Mighty Macs traded points as five points from LaBelle pulled the Cyclones to within nine, 76-67 with 4:48 to go in the contest.
A traditional three-point play from LaBelle at 3:14 made it a 78-73 game.
The two teams went back-and-forth from the foul line in the final three minutes as Immaculata claimed the 92-82 win.
Centenary shot 42.9% from the field and went 24-for-30 from the foul line. Immaculata shot 42.6% from the floor and was aided by making 10 three-pointers. Centenary held a 42-39 edge in the rebounding battle.
LaBelle finished with 27 points, seven rebounds and six assists to lead the Cyclones. Senior
Billy Veras added 20 points and six rebounds. Junior
D'Angelo Blackmond notched his eighth double-double of the season with 15 points and 13 rebounds.
McCullough led Immaculata with 38 points, seven points and six assists.
Centenary will be back in action on Wednesday, Jan. 26 when it hosts Cabrini at 8 p.m.
