HACKETTSTOWN, N.J. – The Centenary University men's soccer team held a 13-7 edge in the shot department but a goal in the 51st minute allowed King's College (Pa.) to edge the home team for a 1-0 victory on Saturday afternoon.
The first half was a back-and-forth battle as both squads fought hard for every loose ball but neither side was able to find the back of the net.
Mahir Yilmaz had three first half shots for the Cyclones while
Aidan Oyler had a shot that Centenary keeper
Andrew Tarkazikis was able to turn away.
The two teams continued to fight to start the second half.
King's finally broke through in the 51st minute as
Liam McLoughlin snuck a low shot home.
The Cyclones continued to apply the pressure but where unable to find the equalizer as King's secured the 1-0 victory.
Pat Hughes made four saves to earn the win in goal for King's. Tarkazikis stopped two shots in the loss for the Cyclones.
Centenary is back in action on Tuesday, Sept. 7 when it hosts Muhlenberg at 4 p.m.
