Manser Scores to Lead Field Hockey Against Hood

HACKETTSTOWN, N.J. – Senior Christine Manser scored her first career goal to lead the Centenary University field hockey team in a 4-1 loss to Hood College on Tuesday afternoon.

It was a scoreless contest after 15 minutes of play, thanks in part to goalkeeper Jenyfer Pereira. Pereira had three saves in the first quarter while freshman Emily Hotz also made a defensive save.

Manser got the Cyclones on the board first with her goal just 1:17 into the second quarter. Junior Michaela Thiessen sent one in from the top of the circle and Manser was able to redirect it into the corner of the net for the goal.

Hood answered with a pair of goals from Sage Barnhart and took a 2-1 lead at the break.

The two teams continued to battle hard in the third but Hood was able to tally the period's only goal. Lauren Neebe rocketed one home for the goal.

Hood added one more goal in the fourth period and claimed the 4-1 win.

Richana Brown made two saves to earn the win in goal for the Blazers. Pereira finished with seven stops for the Cyclones. It was her fifth game this season with seven or more saves.

Centenary is back in action on Saturday, Oct. 2 when the Cyclones travel to Bryn Athyn for a 3 p.m. game.
