Men's Soccer Falls at Rutgers Newark

NEWARK, N.J.Mahir Yilmaz scored his team-leading fourth goal of the season to lead the Centenary University men's soccer team in a 4-1 loss at Rutgers Newark on Wednesday night.

The Scarlet Raiders scored three times in the first 13 minutes of the game to grab an early advantage. Jonah Dias, Franco Catania and Adonis Scotland all scored for Rutgers Newark in that stretch.

Rutgers Newark pushed its lead to 4-0 as Catania struck for his second of the game at 20:48.

Shane Wilson put a shot on goal for the Cyclones in the first half but Christian Andrach was able to turn it away.

Rutgers Newark took the 4-0 lead at the break.

Centenary broke through with the goal from Yilmaz at the 55:07 mark. Brandon Salmon stole a ball along the right side and slipped a pass through two defenders to Yilmaz. Yilmaz fired a low shot home for the goal. Salmon's assist gave him the first point of his collegiate career.

Both teams had their chances down the stretch but neither was able to convert and Rutgers Newark secured the 4-1 win.

Andrach made four saves to earn the win in goal for Rutgers Newark. Andrew Tarkazikis started and suffered the loss for the Cyclones. He made one save while allowing three goals. Paul LiTrenta was strong in relief as he made four saves and gave up just one goal.

The Cyclones are back in action on Saturday, Sept. 25 when they host Hood at 3:30 p.m.
