Mya Burnett had nine kills and senior
Anabelle Olivo added nine digs for the Centenary University volleyball team in their season opener against Mount Saint Vincent on Wednesday.
The Cyclones forced a fourth set against the Dolphins but ultimately fell 3-1. Centenary was in the second set of the match with Kean when the match had to be declared a no contest due to flooding from the weather that hit the area.
The Dolphins took the first two sets, 25-12 and 25-9. The Cyclones rallied multiple times in the third set including from a 23-21 deficit for a 25-23 win. Burnett had the kill that secured the set. Mount St. Vincent secured the match with a 25-17 fourth set win.
Burnett hit .318 in the match and added a pair of block assists to lead the Centenary efforts. Olivo added an assist to go with her nine digs. Senior
Amelia Rodriguez contributed 14 assists and six digs while sophomore
Alyssa Bizzarro had five kills and five digs.
Lindsay DeBoer led Mount Saint Vincent with 11 kills.
The Cyclones are back in action on Saturday, Sept. 4 when they host King's (N.Y.) and Penn State Hazelton in a tri-match starting at 10 a.m.
