Madison Barofski recorded her first career hat trick and sophomore
Jenyfer Pereira made a career-high 16 saves to lead the Centenary University women's lacrosse team in their home opener against Wilson on Saturday afternoon.
Wilson used a big second half to break open a close game and claim a 14-7 victory in the Colonial States Athletic Conference (CSAC) contest.
The Cyclones got on the board first as sophomore
Jordan Vandermark scored her first career goal at 28:55.
Wilson scored the next two goals and led 2-1 with 12:26 to play in the half.
A tally from senior
Kaylee Bennett at 12:13 made it a 2-2 game.
Wilson scored the next three goals and took a 5-2 advantage with 6:32 to go until the break.
Barofski had a goal and picked up the assist on junior
Keirra Doyle's tally in less than a minute span. That pulled the Cyclones to within one, 5-4 with 3:48 showing on the clock.
Wilson got a late goal from Paige Reynolds to take a 6-4 lead at the break.
The visitors scored the first three goals of the second half and extended their lead to 9-4 with 21:21 to go in the game.
Barofski's second of the day came at 19:05 to break up the run by Wilson. That goal was assisted by junior
Christine Manser and made it a 9-5 game with 19:05 showing on the clock.
Wilson scored the next three goals of the contest and made it a 12-5 game with 13:48 left in the contest.
The two teams traded goals over the final 13 and a half minutes. Centenary got goals from Barofski to complete her hat trick and Vandermark's second of the day during that stretch. Wilson scored the game's final goal to secure the 14-7 win.
Kyah Peifer made seven saves to earn the win in goal for the Phoenix. Pereira made nine of her 16 stops in the first half, several coming on point-blank shots.
Barofski finished with four points on three goals and one assist for the Cyclones. She also contributed five ground balls in the game. Vandermark had the two goals while Doyle contributed one goal, one assist, six ground balls and four caused turnovers.
Michaela Singer led Wilson with five goals, one assist and six ground balls.
Centenary is back in action when it hosts Notre Dame on Saturday, April 10 at 2 p.m.
