Bennett Powers Women's Lacrosse Against Notre Dame

HACKETTSTOWN, N.J. – Senior Kaylee Bennett matched her career-high with four goals to lead the Centenary University women's lacrosse team as they battled Notre Dame of Maryland University in Colonial States Athletic Conference (CSAC) action on Saturday afternoon.

The Gators jumped out to a 13-4 lead at the half and eventually claimed the 20-6 victory.

Prior to the start of the final home game, the Cyclones recognized seniors Kaliyah Mitchell, Allison Marquez, Biz Karpinski, Bennett and Cailin O'Hara.

The Cyclones struck first in this one as Bennett curled around the back of the net and buried one home at 27:42.

Notre Dame scored the next nine goals, including four from Kelsey Campbell and took a 9-1 lead with 11:38 showing on the clock.

Bennett scored two of the next three goals in the game and made it a 10-3 game with 6:37 left until the game. Junior Christine Manser picked up the assist on Bennett's first goal in that stretch.

Notre Dame scored the next three goals before Bennett struck for her fourth of the day with just 12 seconds to go in the period. Freshman Maureen Ilic picked up the assist on Bennett's tally.

Sophomore Jenyfer Pereira made eight saves for the Cyclones in the first half.

Notre Dame scored the first five goals of the second half and extended their advantage to 18-4 with 18:10 to play.

A goal from junior Keirra Doyle that was assisted by senior Kristin Bell at 16:54 broke up the Gators' run.

Notre Dame scored two more goals before junior Madison Barofski capped the scoring with her goal at 7:12. Notre Dame claimed the 20-6 win.

Marie Salas made seven saves to earn the win in goal for Notre Dame. Pereira finished with 10 stops, her second straight game with double digit saves for the Cyclones.

Campbell led Notre Dame with seven goals and one assist while Sara Morales had three goals and five assists and grabbed 11 draw controls.

Bennett led Centenary with the four goals and two caused turnovers. Sophomore Michaela Thiessen had a team-best three caused turnovers and two ground balls.

Centenary returns to action on Thursday, April 15 when it travels to Cedar Crest for a 7 p.m. game.
