Bennett's Eight Goals Power Women's Lacrosse Past Cedar Crest

ALLENTOWN, Pa. – Attacker Kaylee Bennett scored a career-high eight goals to lead the Centenary University women's lacrosse team to a 17-10 win at Cedar Crest in Colonial States Athletic Conference (CSAC) action on Thursday night.

Bennett's eight tallies are tied for fifth most by a Cyclone in single-game history. It is the most goals by a Cyclone in a single-game since Abby Voelkner scored eight against Cedar Crest in 2017. Bennett's eight goals are tied for the most by a CSAC player this season.

The 17 goals tonight were the most scored by a Cyclone squad since the 2017 team scored 20 against Notre Dame. It was also the first win by a Cyclone lacrosse team since the 2019 squad beat Cedar Crest on April 27.

"This was a great team effort all around," said head coach Joe Lodato. "In a season wit a ton of obstalces it was great to see the team's hard work pay off."

The Cyclones quickly jumped out to a 3-0 lead on a pair of Bennett goals and one from attacker Zaairah Lamothe. That gave the visitors a three-goal advantage with 22:20 showing on the clock.

Cedar Crest got on the board with a goal from Rhica-May Austin at 21:41.

Centenary responded by scoring the game's next five goals and took an 8-1 advantage with 2:53 showing on the clock. Bennett completed her second hat trick of the season at 16:19 and added two more goals during that stretch.

Cedar Crest scored one more time before the half as Centenary took an 8-2 lead at the break. Bennett had five first half goals for the Cyclones as she scored on each of the first five shots she took.

Centenary opened the second half scoring with two goals in the first 29 seconds of the period. Bennett potted her sixth of the game, a sock trick, while Lamothe secured her first career hat trick.

Cedar Crest scored four of the next five goals and made it an 11-6 game with 23:10 to play. Emily Schoelier had three goals in that stretch for the Falcons.

The Cyclones responded with a 4-0 run and pushed their lead to 15-6 with 17:12 to go in the game. Midfielder Kristin Bell scored twice in that stretch while midfielder Michaela Thiessen notched her first career goal.

The two teams continued to battle over the final 15 minutes as Centenary secured the 17-10 win.

Jenyfer Pereira made nine saves to earn her first career win in net for the Cyclones. Allison Churchill made 11 saves in the loss for the Falcons.

Centenary held a 31-24 advantage in shots in the contest and picked up 26 ground balls to Cedar Crest's 15.

Bennett scored her eight goals on 10 shots to lead the Cyclones. She also contributed five ground balls and three caused turnovers in the contest. Lamothe scored the first three goals of her career while Bell and attacker Madison Barofski each scored two goals. Midfielder Keirra Doyle once again did a little bit of everything for the Cyclones as she finished with one goal, two assists, three ground balls and five draw controls.

Austin led Ceadar Crest with four goals.

Centenary wraps up the regular season when it visits Keystone on Saturday, April 17 at 1 p.m.
