LA PLUME, Pa. –
Kristin Bell and
Kaylee Bennett combined for seven goals to lead the Centenary University women's lacrosse team in a hard-fought back and forth 11-9 loss to Keystone College on Saturday afternoon in Colonial States Athletic Conference (CSAC) action.
Keystone jumped out to a hot start and took a 4-1 lead with 10:52 to go in the first half.
Krista Strausser scored three of those goals and assisted on the fourth.
Centenary scored the final two goals of the half, which made it a 4-3 game at the break in favor of Keystone. Bennett potted her second of the day before
Christine Manser found the back of the net.
Those two goals to end the period were part of a 5-0 run that bridged the first and second halves for the Cyclones. The scoring spurt allowed the Cyclones to turn a 4-1 deficit into a 6-4 lead with 23:49 to play in the game.
Bell scored the final three goals of that run for the Cyclones to secure her first hat trick.
Keystone responded by scoring the next six goals in the game and took a 10-6 lead with 11:36 showing on the clock. Strausser tacked on two more goals in that stretch.
Back-to-back goals from Bennett and Bell pulled the Cyclones to within two, 10-8 with 6:58 to play in the game. It was Bennett's third straight game with a hat trick.
Strausser's sixth goal of the game increased the Keystone advantage to 11-8 with 4:04 to go in the contest.
Centenary found the back of the net one more time as
Madison Barofski, scored her eighth goal of the season which made it an 11-9 game with 1:11 to play.
Keystone held on and claimed the 11-9 victory.
Hannah Osbahr made seven saves to earn the win in goal for the Giants.
Jenyfer Pereira made nine saves for the Cyclones in the loss.
Strausser led Keystone with six goals, one assist and eight draw controls.
Bell completed the game with four goals and one draw control while Bennett added three goals, three draw controls and a ground ball.
Keirra Doyle had a team-high four caused turnovers.
