Casey and Doyle Lead Men's Lacrosse in Loss to Montclair State

HACKETTSTOWN, N.J. – Brandon Casey scored a pair of goals and JT Doyle made 15 saves to lead the Centenary University men's lacrosse team in a loss to Montclair State University on Tuesday afternoon in Colonial States Athletic Conference (CSAC) play.

Montclair State jumped out to a 11-1 lead after 15 minutes of play and claimed the 22-3 victory.

Montclair State opened the game on an 8-0 run. Tyler McCreery and Mike McCreery combined for four goals and two assists during that opening scoring spurt.

Centenary halted the Red Hawks' run and got on the board at 2:49 of the first period. Casey scored his first of the day off a feed from Timothy Kaiser III.

Montclair State used a 4-0 run that bridged the first and second periods to increase its advantage to 12-1.

Casey notched his second goal of the day at the 5:14 mark of the second period. The attacker made a nice curl around the cage and scored.

Montclair State took a 13-2 lead at the half.

The Red Hawks scored the first nine goals of the second half, in a run that bridged the third and fourth quarters. That gave the visitors a 22-2 lead.

Centenary scored the final goal of the game as Kaiser III found the back of the net for his 11th goal of the year. That made the final score 22-3.

Matthew McLaren started and made four saves for the Red Hawks. Tom Pollock also made four saves in relief action. In addition to his 15 saves, Doyle contributed four ground balls and a caused turnover.

Tyler McCreery led Montclair State with four goals and four assists.

Casey finished with the two goals and a ground ball for the Cyclones while Kaiser III had a goal and an assist. Christopher Festa turned in a strong defensive performance with five caused turnovers and four ground balls.

The Cyclones wrap up the regular season on Saturday, May 1 when they host Cairn at 1 p.m.
