CHAMBERSBURG, Pa. – Wilson College broke open a tie in both games to complete a doubleheader sweep of the Centenary University softball team in Colonial States Athletic Conference (CSAC) action on Sunday afternoon.
Game one saw the Phoenix break open a 2-2 tie in the bottom of the fourth and claim a 7-2 win. In game two, Wilson took a 4-3 lead but saw the Cyclones battle back to tie the game in the top of the seventh. A run in the bottom of the seventh gave the home team a 5-4 victory.
Game One Recap (Wilson Won 7-2): Wilson struck first with a pair of runs in the bottom of the second in game one.
Makenna Snodgrass doubled home a pair of runs.
Centenary answered back in the top of the fourth inning and tied the game.
Chloe Wright had a single to center and an error on the play allowed
Maggie Lenahan to score.
Sandra Cosenzo followed with an RBI double to left center that scored
Toni Cacopardo.
A pair of RBI doubles in the bottom of the fourth gave Wilson the lead back, 4-2.
Jenna Carty had an RBI double and scored later in the frame.
Wilson tacked on three more runs in the bottom of the fifth and increased its lead to 7-2.
Taylor Barker had an RBI single and scored in the inning.
Centenary had a runner on in the sixth and seventh innings but was unable to push them across and Wilson claimed the 7-2 win.
Megan Potter tossed a complete game to earn the win in the circle for the Phoenix. She allowed two runs on six hits and struck out seven.
Roxana Gonzalez started for the Cyclones and gave up two runs in 2.2 innings of work.
Samantha Gabriele surrendered five runs in 1.2 innings of relief work to take the loss.
Carty led Wilson with two hits, two RBIs and two runs scored.
Cacopardo had two hits and a run scored for the Cyclones while Cosenzo had a hit and an RBI.
Game Two Recap (Wilson Won 5-4): The Cyclones got on the board first in game two with two runs in the top of the second. Lenahan had an RBI double and crossed the plate on Cosenzo's RBI single.
The Cyclones pushed their lead to 3-0 in the third as Glinko had an RBI single that scored
Tessa Ferentinos.
Wilson tied the game at 3-3 in the bottom of the fourth. Barker drove in two with a single in the frame.
Barker gave the home team a 4-3 lead with her RBI single in the sixth.
Down to their final out in the top of the seventh, Centenary found a way to battle back and tie the game at 4-4. Glinko delivered a double to left center that scored
Meghan Hughes, who had singled leading off the frame.
Wilson put its first two runners on via singles to start the bottom of the seventh. A fielders choice put a runner on third and a Centenary error allowed the game-winning run to score. Wilson earned the 5-4 win.
Potter earned her second win of the day with an inning of relief work. She allowed one run on two hits. Gonzalez took the loss for the Cyclones after giving up two runs on five hits in 2.1 innings of relief work.
Barker had two hits and three RBIs for Wilson.
Glinko had two hits, two RBIs and a run scored for the Cyclones.
The Cyclones are back in action on Thursday, April 22 when they host Cairn at 3 p.m.
