Escano and Jacobs Post Double-Doubles to Lead Women's Basketball Past Cairn

LANGHORNE, Pa. – Double-doubles from junior Carmen Escano and senior Victoria Jacobs helped power the Centenary University women's basketball team to a 76-57 win at Cairn University on Saturday afternoon.

The 76 points scored by the Cyclones were a season-high.

"Today was a good team victory," said head coach Rose Haller. "I was pleased that we worked hard to follow the game plan and that we played hard for all four quarters."

Centenary sprinted out to a 10-3 lead as freshman Kaylie Elsbree connected on a jumper at 5:15.

A traditional three-point play from Tamia Warner at 2:06 pulled the Highlanders to within four, 14-10.

A late three-pointer from senior Taylor Bossert gave the Cyclones a 17-12 lead after one period of play.

Centenary opened the second period on a 15-1 run and increased its advantage to 32-13 with 5:13 to go until the half. Bossert and Jacobs each had four points during that stretch.

The two teams traded points over the final five minutes of the period as the Cyclones took a 36-23 lead at the break.

The Cyclones and Highlanders battled to start the third quarter as Korin Bradley's jumper at 7:11 cut the Centenary advantage to nine, 40-31.

Centenary responded with a 9-0 run and pushed its advantage to 49-31 with 4:26 showing on the clock. Escano had four points in that scoring spurt.

The two teams continued to trade points as Centenary took a 54-38 lead after three periods of play.

Cairn scored the first six points off the fourth quarter and pulled to within ten, 54-44 with 8:23 to play.

Centenary scored the next 11 points in the game and took a 65-44 lead with 5:30 showing on the clock. Escano put four on the board during that stretch.

A later three-pointer from senior Molly Collins helped the Cyclones secure the 76-57 win.

Centenary shot 46.2% from the field and made 12-for-18 chances from the foul line. Cairn shot 32.8% from the field and was 12-for-15 from the foul line. Centenary had a 43-39 edge in the rebounding battle.

Bossert tied for game-high honors with 22 points, her third 20+ point performance of the season. Escano contributed 19 points and 10 rebounds for her fourth straight double-double and sixth of the season. Jacobs finished with 10 points and 10 rebounds while sophomore Salma Eddahiri had 10 points.

Dakota Hitchner had 22 points for Cairn.

The Cyclones are back in action on Wednesday, Dec. 8 when they host Penn State Abington at 7 p.m.
