Foul Shooting Helps Women's Basketball Secure 64-53 Road Win

PHOENIXVILLE, Pa. – Senior Taylor Bossert was a perfect 6-for-6 from the foul line in the final minute of the game to help the Centenary University women's basketball team hold on for a 64-53 win at the University of Valley Forge on Tuesday night.

The Cyclones and Patriots traded baskets early in the first period as Amaya Brown's jumper at 4:49 gave Valley Forge a 9-6 lead.

Junior Carmen Escano scored six of the game's next eight points as Centenary took a 12-11 lead with 2:35 showing on the clock.

A Dominique Barnes' lay-up at 2:28 gave the home team a 13-12 edge. Valley Forge held that one-point advantage as time expired on the first period.

A pair of three-pointers from sophomore Salma Eddahiri gave Centenary an 18-16 lead with 9:12 remaining in the second period.

The two teams traded points as a pair of free throws from Escano gave the Cyclones a 22-21 advantage with 5:04 showing on the clock.

Valley Forge scored six of the next eight points and took a 27-24 lead with 1:18 left in the period.

Escano hit a running three just before the buzzer, which sent the two teams into the locker room tied at 27-27.

Valley Forge scored five of the first seven points in the third period and took a 32-29 lead with 6:53 showing on the clock.

Centenary used a 13-2 run to turn a three-point deficit into an eight-point advantage, 42-34 with 2:14 to go in the period. Bossert had five points during that run.

A pair of free throws from senior Victoria Jacobs in the final minute gave Centenary a 44-37 lead after three periods of play.

A three-pointer from freshman Kaylie Elsbree at the 6:15 mark of the fourth quarter pushed the Cyclones' lead to 50-40.

The two teams went back-and-forth as a jumper from Jasmine Hamilton at 1:14 cut the Centenary lead to five, 56-51.

Centenary was a perfect 8-for-8 from the foul line in the final minute to close out the 64-53 win. Bossert went 6-for-6 in that stretch while Escano knocked down two.

Centenary shot 38.5% from the field in the game and was aided by going 18-for-22 from the foul line (10-for-10 in the fourth quarter). Valley Forge shot 32.8% from the field and was 8-for-10 from the line. Centenary held a 38-37 edge in the rebounding battle.

Escano posted her third double-double of the year to lead the Cyclones. She finished with a season-high 21 points and 12 rebounds while Bossert contributed 19 points. Eddahiri chipped in 12 points and seven assists for the Cyclones.

Brown finished with nine points for Valley Forge.

Centenary will be back in action on Saturday, Nov. 27 when it hosts Clarks Summit at 1 p.m.
