Thiessen Scores as Field Hockey Falls to Cedar Crest

HACKETTSTOWN, N.J. – Junior Michaela Thiessen scored her team-leading sixth goal of the season to lead the Centenary University field hockey team in a hard fought 4-1 loss to Cedar Crest College on Saturday morning in the season finale.

Cedar Crest scored just 37 seconds into the game as Amber Cieri took a pass from Kiley Marone on a penalty corner and punched it home.

The Falcons added two goals in the second period as Emily Demarest and Karleigh Hobel scored. Cedar Crest took a 3-0 lead at the break.

Centenary broke through, just 2:52 into the third period. Sophomore Hailey Rowe launched a ball into the circle and Thiessen was able to redirect it home for the goal.

Marone added a goal at 41:55 to give Cedar Crest a 4-1 advantage.

The two teams continued to battle in the fourth quarter but neither could find the back of the net as Cedar Crest claimed the 4-1 victory.

Brynn Rifino made two saves to earn the win in goal. Junior Jenyfer Pereira made 11 saves in the loss for the Cyclones. It was the third time this season Pereira has made double digit saves.

The game concluded the Centenary careers of Keirra Doyle, Danika Brandt and Christine Manser.
