WAYNE, N.J. – Junior
Chelsea Estacio made a season-high 10 saves to lead the Centenary University women's soccer team in a hard fought 2-1 loss at William Paterson University on Monday night.
Both teams had their chances early on but Estacio made three stops in the first 20 minutes, including one on a penalty kick, to keep the game knotted at 0-0.
William Paterson finally broke through in the 30th minute as
Sabrina Bishara scored off a pass from
Isabel Fernandez.
The home team carried that 1-0 lead into the half.
The Pioneers struck first in the second half as
Madelynn Spink's goal at 60:23 gave William Paterson a 2-0 lead.
Centenary cut its deficit in half in the 67th minute as freshman
Cassandra Ferguson scored her sixth goal of the season.
Estacio made three more saves down the stretch to keep it a one-goal game but the Cyclones were unable to strike again as William Paterson claimed the 2-1 win.
Erica Hickey earned the win in goal after allowing one goal and not making a save. For Estacio, it was the fourth time in her career that she has made 10 or more saves in a game.
Centenary is back in action on Saturday, Oct. 23 when it travels to Marywood for a 1 p.m. game.
