Team Effort Gives Volleyball a 3-0 Win Over CCNY

HACKETTSTOWN, N.J. – Freshman Mya Burnett and sophomore Alyssa Bizzarro combined for 22 kills to lead the Centenary University volleyball team to a 3-0 win over The City College of New York (CCNY) on Wednesday night.

The Cyclones snapped a four-match losing streak with the win. Centenary picked up it's fifth win of the season in the match, it's most wins in a season since the 2012 season.

With the first set tied at 12-12, Centenary rattled off 11 of the next 12 points in the set and took a 23-13 advantage. Burnett had five kills in that stretch while senior Amelia Rodriguez had three service aces. Centenary took the first set 25-14 on a Burnett service ace.

Centenary quickly opened up a 9-2 lead in the second set on a service ace from freshman Jessica Simpson. The Cyclones pushed that lead to 23-7 on a Burnett kill. Another kill from Burnett gave the Cyclones a 25-16 set win and a 2-0 lead in the match.

The two teams went back and forth in the third set before back-to-back service aces from Bizzarro gave the home team a 23-18 lead. Centenary took the third set, 25-20 and won the match.

Burnett had a match-high 14 kills and hit .560 in the contest with five digs. Bizzarro contributed eight kills and a match-high 16 digs to go along with five service aces. Rodriguez had 21 assists, nine digs and four service aces for the Cyclones. Sophomore Caelyn Campbell had 11 digs as well.

Bianka Catral had 10 kills and 10 digs for CCNY.

The Cyclones are back in action on Friday, Oct. 15 when they host Marymount at 7 p.m.
