Neumann Slips Past Women's Soccer on Senior Day

HACKETTSTOWN, N.J. – A pair of second half goals allowed Neumann University to slip past the Centenary University women's soccer team, 2-1 on Wednesday afternoon in Atlantic East Conference play.

Before the game, the Cyclones honored seniors Chelsea Cordice, Rachel Colt, Jill Pullis, Ellie Roberts and Saralyn Thunell for their contributions to the program.

The excitement of the Senior Day festivities carried over to the start of the game.

Just 21 seconds into the contest, the Cyclones were able to find the back of the net. Freshman Cassandra Ferguson played a ball into the center of the box and sophomore Salma Eddahiri was able to head it home.

Both teams had their chance in the first half as the two sides combined for 17 shots but Centenary was able to carry the 1-0 lead into the break.

Neumann was able to get the equalizer in the 61st minute of the game as Chloe Britton tipped one into the corner of the net off a clear.

Both teams continued to press for every opportunity.

Neumann got what proved to be the game-winning goal as Belle Hughes collected a ball off a ricochet and powered it home.

The visitors were able to claim the 2-1 lead.

Lee Macrina had eight saves to earn the win in goal for Neumann. Colt made three saves while not giving up a goal in the first half for the Cyclones. Cordice started the second half and made two saves while junior Chelsea Estacio made two stops in relief.

The Cyclones are back in action on Saturday, Oct. 16 as they travel to Cairn for a 1 p.m. game.
