Fratesi Powers Baseball to Doubleheader Split with SUNY Cobleskill

HACKETTSTOWN, N.J. – Senior Cole Fratesi had seven RBIs in a game two win to lead the Centenary University baseball team to a doubleheader split with SUNY Cobleskill on Sunday afternoon at Our Diamond of Dreams.

Fratesi was 4-for-4 at the plate, including a grand slam over the scoreboard in left field, which helped the Cyclones claim a 20-5 win in game two on Sunday. SUNY Cobleskill had game one by a 4-2 margin.

Fratesi's seven RBIs are the most by a Cyclone since fellow senior Jon Fleck had seven against Valley Forge last year. It also marked the fourth time in program history that a player has driven in seven or more runs in a game.

Game One Recap (SUNY Cobleskill Wins, 4-2)
The Cyclones jumped out to the early lead in this one as sophomore Mike Vallario's single through the left side of the infield scored sophomore Christopher Gass with the first run of the game.

SUNY Cobleskill tied the game in the top of the fourth as Eddy Garcia reached on a fielder's choice and eventually came around to touch the plate on a passed ball.

The Fighting Tigers tacked on three more runs in the top of the fifth for the 4-1 advantage. The big blow in that inning came off the bat of Nick Thomas, who had a two-run single.

The Cyclones had one last chance in this one as they had two runners reach with two outs in the bottom of the seventh. Junior Nicholas Grifone ripped a single to right that scored Fleck but SUNY Cobleskill made a pitching change and got the final out to secure the 4-2 win.

Jarrod Williams earned the win on the mound for SUNY Cobleskill as he gave up two runs in 6.2 innings of work. Sophomore Tyler Martinez took the loss after giving up four runs in 4.2 innings of action.

Grifone and Gass each had two hits in the game to lead the Cyclones. Grifone picked up an RBI while Gass had a run scored.

Thomas led SUNY Cobleskill with two hits and two RBIs.

Game Two Recap (Centenary Wins, 20-5)
SUNY Cobleskill got the game two scoring started with a one-out home run from Thomas in the first inning.

Centenary responded with two runs in the bottom of the second to take back the lead. Fratesi knocked in his first run of the game with a single while senior Chris Miller added an RBI double to right center.

The Cyclones put three more runs on the board in the bottom of the third and increased their advantage to 5-1 in the game. Grifone got the scoring started with an RBI double while Fleck and Fratesi had RBI singles.

SUNY Cobleskill put two on the board in the top of the fourth and made it a 5-3 game.

Centenary increased its lead to 8-3 with three runs in the bottom of the fifth. Sophomore Anthony Vassallo had a two-run single and later crossed the plate on an error by the Fighting Tigers.

SUNY Cobleskill looked to have something going in the top of the sixth as the first three batters reached and one scored.

Sophomore Anthony Ranaudo then entered the game to pitch with runners on first and third. Ranaudo got the first two batters he faced to strikeout. Joseph Ciatto stroked an RBI single to right field that made it an 8-5 game. Ranaudo was able to buckle down and get the final out of the inning on a strikeout.

The Centenary offense busted the game wide open in the bottom of the sixth. The Cyclones sent 15 batters to the plate and scored 12 runs.

Fratesi had five RBIs in the inning for the Cyclones as he recorded an RBI double before launching the monster grand slam down the left field line and over the scoreboard. Sophomore Dante Vartolone had a two run double in the inning Sophomore Brandon Smith and Vallario each scored two runs in the inning.

Senior Nick Scotto earned the win on the mound as he allowed five runs on nine hits in five innings. Ranaudo got the final six outs while allowing just one hit. Devin Lewis took the loss for SUNY Cobleskill after giving up eight runs on 10 hits in 4.2 innings of work.

Fratesi was 4-for-4 with the seven RBIs and two runs scored while Vallario was 2-for-3 with four runs scored. Vassallo had three RBIs and two runs scored for the Cyclones.

Centenary is back in action on Wednesday, March 11 as the Cyclones travel to Wilkes for a 3:30 p.m. game.
