MYRTLE BEACH, S.C. – The Centenary University softball team opened its 2020 season with a pair of wins on Saturday at the Fast Pitch Dreams Spring Classic in Myrtle Beach.

Centenary opened the season with an 8-2 victory over Waynesburg University. The Cyclones then followed that up with a 4-2 win versus the University of Saint Joseph.

"It was a great start to the season today," said head coach Kim Broking. "Everyone contributed and we played with a lot of energy."

Centenary 8, Waynesburg 2 Recap
Senior Justine Stefura, junior Courtney Deloughery and freshman Jenna Glinko all scored two runs each to lead the Cyclones to the win over Waynesburg.

The Cyclones plated three runs in the first two innings to take the early advantage. Deloughery scored on freshman Maggie Lenahan's RBI single in the first. Glinko reached on a fielder's choice in the second which allowed senior Jessica Hewitt to score and she later crossed the plate on an error.

Waynesburg got one run back in the top of the third before the Cyclone offense went back to work.

Centenary scored two in the third as Hewitt had an RBI groundout and junior Meghan Hughes scored on a wild pitch. The Cyclones led 5-1 at that point.

After plating a run in the fourth, the Cyclones put two more on the board in the bottom of the sixth. Stefura had an RBI triple and later crossed the plate on junior Tessa Ferentinos' groundout.

Waynesburg scored one more run in the top of the seventh, but it was not enough as Centenary claimed the 8-2 win.
