Bennett and Pereira Lead Women's Lacrosse in Loss to Purchase

PURCHASE, N.Y. – Senior Kaylee Bennett scored her first two goals of the season and freshman Jenyfer Pereira made a season-high 10 saves, but it was not enough as the Centenary University women's lacrosse team fell at Purchase College on Friday afternoon.

The Panthers jumped out to a 6-0 lead at the half and claimed an 18-2 win.

Gabriella Castles had three first half goals while Madeline Mecca had two goals and two assists to help the home team open up their advantage in the first half.

Pereira made five first half saves for the Cyclones.

Mecca scored five times in the second half for the Panthers.

Bennett got the Cyclones on the board with her first goal of the year at 21:05 and later added a second tally at 11:03.

Casandra Schmoger made five saves to earn the win in goal for Purchase. Pereira added five second half saves to finish with 10 for the Cyclones.

Bennett added a ground ball and a caused turnover to go along with her two goals for the Cyclones. Freshman Daisy Castillo finished with six ground balls and two caused turnovers while senior Cailin O'Hara had five ground balls and two caused turnovers. Sophomore Madison Barofski finished with three draw controls and two ground balls.

Mecca led Purchase with seven goals, three assists, seven ground balls and four draw controls.

The Cyclones are back in action on Tuesday, March 10 when they travel to Felician for a 4 p.m. game.
