LYNDHURST, N.J. – Senior
Kaylee Bennett recorded her first hat trick of the season to lead the Centenary University women's lacrosse team in a loss at Felician College on Tuesday afternoon.
Felician opened up the 7-3 halftime lead and claimed a 15-5 win over the Cyclones. The five goals are a season-high for the Cyclones.
Felician scored the game's first three goals before Bennett got the Cyclones on the board with a goal at 21:38.
The two teams traded goals as Bennett's second of the day made it a 4-2 game with 14:37 remaining in the half.
Bennett's third goal of the game at 2:41 pulled the Cyclones to within two, 5-3.
Felician scored the final two goals of the half and led 7-3 at the break.
Freshman
Jenyfer Pereira made four first half saves for the Cyclones while Centenary won seven of the game's 11 draw controls in the first 30 minutes. Sophomores
Madison Barofski,
Keirra Doyle and freshman
Daisy Castillo all won two draw controls in that time frame.
The Cyclones and Felician traded goals to start the second period. Junior
Kristen Bell struck for her first goal as a Cyclone off a pass from Barofski at 26:57.
Felician scored seven times in the final 20 minutes of the game to secure the 15-5 win. In the midst of that scoring run Castillo netted her first career goal off a pass from Bennett at 3:30.
Megan Euler made 12 big saves to earn the win in goal for Felician. Pereira added six second half saves and finished with 10 in the contest.
Bennett led Centenary with three goals and one assist.
Centenary won the battle in the draw circle as the Cyclones finished with 15 to Felician's seven. Barofski had a team-high five draw controls while Castillo added four.
Raquel Vilas led Felician with six goals and three assists on the day.
Centenary is back in action on Thursday, March 19 when the Cyclones travel to Mount St. Mary for a 4 p.m. game.
