Balanced Attack Leads Men's Basketball to 85-73 Win Over Rosemont

HACKETTSTOWN, N.J. – A balanced team effort powered the Centenary University men's basketball team to an 85-73 win over Rosemont College in Colonial States Athletic Conference (CSAC) play on Saturday afternoon. The Cyclones (13-7, 8-1 CSAC) earned a season split with the Ravens and avenged their only CSAC loss of the season so far.

"We had a very balanced effort today from our squad," said interim head coach Jason Geleski. "We had multiple guys with solid outings and our bigs played very well."

"D'Angelo Blackmond had a great game for us," added Geleski. "He registered another double-double and I believe he's the top freshman in the CSAC. Billy Veras finished with 24 points, eight rebounds and five assists to lead the way. Samad McMillan pulled down a career-high nine rebounds and Tom Weiler finished with 17 points, six rebounds and six assists for a well rounded effort."

The Cyclones and Ravens traded baskets early. Rosemont took a 9-8 lead on a Chris Briner lay-up at 15:52.

A 7-0 run by the visitors gave Rosemont a 16-11 lead with 12:43 to go until the half. Perry Belcher completed a three-point play during that stretch.

Centenary responded by scoring 19 of the next 24 points in the contest and took a 36-21 lead with 7:29 showing on the clock. Weiler had five during that run while sophomore Harrison Lucibello and Blackmond each added four points.

The two sides traded points over the next several minutes as sophomore Tyler White's three-pointer at 2:13 gave the home team a 35-26 lead.

Rosemont went on a 7-2 run and cut the Centenary lead to four, 37-33 with 47 seconds to go until the half.

Junior Michael Young drained a three-pointers with 38 seconds left and that bucket sent the Cyclones into the half with a 40-33 advantage.

Centenary opened the second half on a 6-2 run and pushed its lead to 46-36 with 18:56 to go. Veras scored four of the six points in that stretch.

The two teams continued to battle on both ends of the court as Centenary used an 9-2 run to increase its advantage to 59-48 with 12:23 to go in the game. Weiler contributed a big three-pointer in that stretch.

A White three-pointer at 10:32 gave Centenary its largest lead of the game, 67-54.

The Cyclones and Ravens traded points as a pair of free throws from Lucibello at 5:04 gave Centenary a 73-65 advantage.

A Veras lay-up at 1:44 put the home team ahead 79-69.

The two teams continued to battle on both ends of the floor before a pair of free throws from Veras with 28 seconds left sealed an 85-73 win.
