Women's Soccer Falls at No. 15 NYU

RIVERDALE, N.Y. – Senior Stephanie Williams scored her first goal of the season to lead the Centenary University women's soccer team in a hard fought 4-1 loss to #15 New York University on Saturday afternoon.

The Violets jumped out to an early advantage with three goals in the first 30 minutes of the contest. Gabriella Funk had a goal and an assist for NYU during that stretch.

The Cyclones got on the board at 42:04 as Williams headed home a pass from fellow senior Raeanna Cope. Williams' goal snapped a scoreless streak of over 400 minutes for the Cyclones.

NYU carried that 3-1 lead into the halftime break. Freshman Chelsea Estacio helped the Cyclones keep it to a two-goal deficit as she made seven first half saves.

The Violets scored the only goal of the second half as Lila Keltz scored her second goal of the day at 75:08.

NYU claimed the 4-1 win.

Meghan Marhan made three saves to earn the win in goal for the Violets. Estacio made nine second half saves and finished with a career-high 16 saves for the Cyclones.

The Cyclones will be back in action on Saturday, Sept. 28 when they begin their Colonial States Athletic Conference (CSAC) title defense. Centenary hosts Rosemont at 3 p.m. in the second game of a doubleheader with the men's team.
