HACKETTSTOWN, N.J. – Freshman
Juan Restrepo scored his third goal in the last two games but the U.S. Merchant Marine Academy (USMMA) turned a 3-0 halftime advantage into a 4-1 win over the Centenary University men's soccer team on Wednesday afternoon.
The Mariners used a pair of goals in the first 10 minutes of play to jump out to the early lead.
Alex Madonna and
Nick Roros scored to give the visitors the 2-0 advantage.
Senior
Matt Miller recorded a shot on goal but Mariners' goalkeeper
Matthew Milner came up with the save.
USMMA added to its lead in the 42nd minute as
Jack Remark scored off a pass from
Liam Cashmore.
The visitors carried that 3-0 advantage into the halftime break.
The two teams continued to battle on both ends of the field to start the second half.
Centenary broke through in the 77th minute as sophomore
Chris Spataro passed a ball through the box and Restrepo was able to collect and knock home.
The Mariners added a
Connor Damare goal in the 88th minute to seal a 4-1 win.
Milner finished with five saves to earn the win in goal for the Mariners. Sophomore
Paul LiTrenta made six saves in the loss for the Cyclones.
The Mariners held a 19-12 advantage in shots in the game and had a slim 8-6 advantage in corner kicks.
The Cyclones are back in action on Saturday, Sept. 7 when they travel to Muhlenberg for a 6 p.m. game.
