MADISON, N.J. – Drew University scored a pair of goals in the second half to break a 1-1 tie and defeated the Centenary University men's soccer team 3-1 in the season opener for both teams on Friday afternoon.
After Friday's results, the Cyclones will face Stockton on Saturday, Aug. 31 at 3:30 p.m. in the consolation game of the Drew Fall Festival.
Centenary struck early in this one as junior
Tom Parry converted a penalty kick at 15:02 of the first half.
Drew got the equalizer at 32:01 as Nick Caicedo scored on a one-timer from the left side.
Nathan Han picked up the helper on Caicedo's goal.
The two teams went into the half tied at 1-1 despite Drew holding a 14-1 advantage in shots in the first 45 minutes. Sophomore
Paul LiTrenta kept the Cyclones tied as he made eight first half saves.
Drew struck twice in the second half as
Nate Race and
Aidan Cserhat found the back of the net.
That proved to be the difference in the game as Drew held a 9-1 advantage in shots in the second half.
Jason Adamo earned the win in goal for the Rangers as he was not forced to make a save. LiTrenta finished with 11 saves in the loss for the Cyclones.
