Mott and Howell Power Men's Lacrosse to 17-1 Win over Keystone

HACKETTSTOWN, N.J. – Sophomore Kyle Mott and junior Chris Howell combined for 11 goals and four assists to lead the Centenary University men's lacrosse team to a 17-1 win over Keystone College in Colonial States Athletic Conference (CSAC) action on Saturday afternoon.

The Cyclones got on the board at the 11:23 mark of the first quarter as Howell scored his sixth goal of the season. That goal was the start of a 7-0 run by the home team that bridged the first and second quarters.

Howell scored twice in the scoring stretch and added an assist while Mott found the back of the net three times in the run.

Keystone briefly halted the Centenary run with a goal from Jaydan Kirby at 6:26 of the second quarter. That tally made it a 7-1 game in favor of the hosts.

Mott's fourth goal of the first half gave the Cyclones an 8-1 lead at the half.

Howell needed just seven seconds in the third quarter to push the Centenary lead to 9-1. The junior won the opening faceoff and went straight to the goal for his third tally of the day and eighth goal of the year. It was the second time in the game that Howell needed less than 10 seconds to score as his second quarter tally came just eight seconds after the faceoff.

Following Howell's goal, the Cyclones found pay dirt six more times in the third quarter and pushed their lead to 15-1 after three periods of play. Sophomore Nick Biango scored a pair of goals and assisted on two others during that stretch while fellow sophomore Timothy Kaiser III had a pair of goals and an assist.

Centenary added two more goals in the fourth quarter en route to the 17-1 win. Mott had a goal and an assist in the period while Howell scored as well.

Sophomore Ryan Lacamera made eight saves to earn the win in goal for the Cyclones. Nicholas Vasquez made four saves in the loss for Keystone.

Mott paced the Cyclones with eight points as he contributed seven goals and one assist. His seven goals were the most by a Cyclone since Nolan Gottshall scored eight against Keystone last spring. Howell contributed four goals and three assists for seven points. He also won 18-of-21 faceoffs and scooped up 19 ground balls.

Biango posted two goals and five assists for seven points while junior Patrick Fitzgerald led the defensive efforts for Centenary with four ground balls and four caused turnovers.

Kirby had the only goal for Keystone.

Centenary is back in action as the Cyclones travel to Montclair State on Wednesday, April 17 for a 7 p.m. game.
