HACKETTSTOWN, N.J. – Five points from sophomore
Kyle Mott and a strong defensive effort lifted the Centenary University men's lacrosse team to a 7-2 win over Elmira College on Saturday afternoon.
With the win, the Cyclones presented head coach
Joe Lodato with his first win on the Centenary sidelines.
The Cyclones struck first in the contest as sophomore
Timothy Kaiser III tallied his fourth goal of the year off a pass from junior
Noah Jones at 8:27 of the first period.
Elmira tied things up on a
David Keisler goal with 5:37 showing on the clock.
Centenary scored three straight goals and jumped out to a 4-1 lead with 8:23 to go in the second period. Mott had a hand in all three goals as he scored two and assisted on the third. Sophomore
Nick Biango had a goal and an assist during that stretch as well.
Elmira scored one more time before the half as
Isaac Gottheil found the back of the net at the 6:42 mark.
Centenary carried that 4-2 lead into the half.
Neither team was able to find the back of the net in the third quarter. The Cyclone defense was locked in during the stanza as it allowed just two shots during the 15-minute period and just one of those was on goal.
Centenary struck for three more goals in the fourth quarter for the 7-2 win. Mott completed his hat trick with a goal at 10:17 before Biango struck for his second of the day at 8:31. Mott picked up his second helper of the afternoon as he assisted Biango's goal. Kaiser III tallied his second goal of the day at 6:42 to cap the scoring.
Sophomore
Ryan Lacamera made five saves to earn the win in goal for the Cyclones. Lacamera and the Cyclone defense pitched the second half shutout as they allowed just seven total shots after halftime.
Jacob Mattice made 22 saves for Elmira in the loss.
Mott led the Cyclones with three goals and two assists on the afternoon while Biango added two goals and an assist for three points.
Junior
Nick Bogert led the defensive efforts with a career-high five caused turnovers and three ground balls. Junior
Chris Howell finished with 12 faceoff wins and also scooped up 12 ground balls.
The Cyclones are back in action on Wednesday, March 13 when they host the College of Mount Saint Vincent at 3 p.m.
