Wright Powers Softball to Doubleheader Split with FDU-Florham

MADISON, N.J. – Junior Juli Wright had four hits and three RBIs to lead the Centenary University softball team to a doubleheader split at FDU-Florham on Tuesday afternoon.

The Cyclones won game one by a 6-2 score before the Devils bounced back and took game two by a 17-5 margin.

Game One Recap (Centenary Won 6-2)
The Cyclones got on the board quickly with a pair of runs in the top of the first inning. Wright delivered a one-out single that allowed sophomores Tessa Ferentinos and Meghan Hughes to score.

Centenary extended its lead to 4-0 with two more runs in the top of the second. Junior Justine Stefura reached on a leadoff single and eventually came around to score on a passed ball. Ferentinos roped a triple that plated Hughes, who had reached via a walk.

FDU Florham got one of those runs back in the bottom of the third as Dani Sames lifted a sacrifice fly to center field.

The Cyclones tacked on two runs in the top of the fifth for a 6-1 advantage. Junior Jessica Hewitt had a single and an error on the play allowed Wright to score. Hewitt crossed the plate on freshman Kayla Morales' sac fly.

FDU Florham got one run back in the bottom of the fifth but Hewitt shut the Devils down the in the sixth and seventh innings to preserve the victory.

Hewitt allowed just the two runs, one of which was earned, on eight hits to collect her fifth victory of the season. Abbey Scarengelli took the loss for FDU-Florham after surrendering four runs on four hits in 1.2 innings of action.

Wright led Centenary at the plate as she was 3-for-4 with two RBIs and a run scored while Hewitt, Ferentinos and Hughes all tallied two hits in the contest. Hughes scored a pair of runs for the Cyclones.

Morgan DeLoreto led the Devils with two hits and a run scored.

Game Two Recap (FDU-Florham Won 17-5)
FDU-Florham struck first in game two with a run in the bottom of the first.

Centenary responded with a pair of runs in the top of the third. Sophomore Courtney Deloughery singled home freshman Janaya Gaetan. Deloughery then touched the plate on Wright's RBI double.

The Devils put 11 runs on the board in the bottom half of the third and took a 12-2 lead. Annamarie Santangelo and Nicole Casale each had two run doubles in the inning.

The Cyclones got one run back in the fourth as Hughes reached on an error and that allowed Morales to score.

FDU-Florham plated five more runs in the fourth and took a 17-3 lead in the contest. DeLoreto had a three-run home run for the Devils.

Centenary closed out the scoring with a pair of runs in the top of the fifth. Deloughery scored on Stefura's sac fly to left before Wright scored on wild pitch.

Kaleigh Oplinger earned the win for the Devils as she allowed five runs on five hits in five innings. Sophomore Roxana Gonzalez took the loss for the Cyclones after giving up five runs on two hit in a third of an inning.

DeLoreto led the Devils with two hits, four RBIs and two runs scored.

Wright had two hits and an RBI for the Cyclones while Deloughery had a hit, an RBI and a pair of runs scored.

The Cyclones are back in action on Wednesday, March 27 as they travel to Clarks Summit to open Colonial States Athletic Conference (CSAC) play at 3 p.m.
