Softball Battles Late Before Falling to Delaware Valley

DOYLESTOWN, N.J. – Freshman Sandra Cosenzo and sophomore Courtney Deloughery each had two hits, an RBI and a run scored in game two for the Centenary University softball team at Delaware Valley on Tuesday afternoon.

The Aggies claimed a 6-1 victory in game one and just edged the Cyclones by a 7-6 margin in game two.

Game One Recap (Delaware Valley Won 6-1)
Delaware Valley got on the board first in game one with three runs in the bottom of the second. Jamie Stefani had a two-run single down the right field line in the frame.

The Aggies tacked on two runs and increased their lead to 5-0 in the bottom of the fourth. Stefani reached which allowed a run to score and later crossed the plate for Delaware Valley.

Centenary got one of those runs back in the top of the sixth. Sophomore Meghan Hughes drew a one-out walk and advanced to second as sophomore Tessa Ferentinos reached on an error. Hughes then crossed the plate as Deloughery reached on an error.

Caitlin Stoner had an RBI single for the Aggies in the bottom of the sixth.

Centenary had two runners on in the top of the seventh but were unable to get either across the plate and Delaware Valley claimed the 6-1 win.

Stefani earned the win in the circle for game one as she gave up one unearned run on three hits in seven innings of work. Junior Jessica Hewitt took the loss for the Cyclones as she surrendered six runs, four of which were earned on 10 hits in six innings.

Stefani led Delaware Valley at the plate with three hits and two RBIs.

Ferentinos, Hewitt and freshman Janaya Gaetan each had a hit for the Cyclones.

Game Two Recap (Delaware Valley Won 7-6)
The Cyclones got the offense going in the first inning of game two. Hughes led off with a double and came around to score on Deloughery's RBI single. Deloughery scored on an RBI groundout from junior Juli Wright. Hewitt contributed an RBI single in the frame and crossed the plate on Cosenzo's RBI double.

Delaware Valley tied the game with four runs in the bottom of the second. The big hit in the inning came from Morgan Hawk, who had a two-run single to left center.

The game remained tied at 4-4 until the Cyclones came to bat in the top of the sixth inning. Centenary loaded the bases with one out as Cosenzo, freshman Kayla Morales and Gaetan all reached. Hughes plated Cosenzo with an RBI groundout and Morales crossed the plate as Ferentinos reached on a fielder's choice.

Delaware Valley answered back with three runs in the bottom of the sixth and took a 7-6 lead. Maddy O'Donohue had a two-run triple to center field before Julie Burns drew a bases loaded walk.

The game was called after the sixth inning due to darkness and Delaware Valley claimed the 7-6 win.

Burns earned the win in relief for Delaware Valley. She gave up two runs on three hits in two innings of work. Sophomore Roxana Gonzalez took the loss for Centenary after giving up four runs on six hits in five innings of work.

O'Donohue went 2-for-2 at the plate with three RBIs for Delaware Valley.

Cosenzo and Deloughery each went 2-for-3 with an RBI and a run scored for the Cyclones.

The Cyclones are back in action on Thursday, March 21 when they travel to Montclair State for a doubleheader starting at 3 p.m.
