Stefura and Deloughery Lead Softball in Doubleheader Loss Gwynedd Mercy

HACKETTSTOWN, N.J. – Junior Justine Stefura and sophomore Courtney Deloughery combined for seven RBIs as the Centenary University softball team fell in both games of a doubleheader to Gwynedd Mercy University on Monday afternoon.

The Griffins earned a 14-7 win in game one and completed the sweep with a 7-4 win in game two.

Game One Recap (Gwynedd Mercy Won 14-7)
The two teams traded runs in the first inning of game one and found themselves tied at 1-1.

Gwynedd Mercy scored three runs in the top of the third inning and took a 4-1 lead in the game. Nicole Floyd had two run double in the frame for the Griffins.

The visitors extended their lead to 7-1 with three more runs in the top of the fifth inning. Chelsea Briggs had an RBI single and came around to score in the frame.

The Cyclones got two of those runs back in the bottom of the fifth. Deloughery delivered a two-out two-run single to center which scored junior Juli Wright and sophomore Tessa Ferentinos.

Gwynedd Mercy extended its advantage to 10-3 in the top of the sixth. Amanda Clark had a three-run home run to right center for the Griffins.

In the bottom of the sixth inning, Centenary sent seven runners to the plate and scored four runs. Stefura drove in a pair of runs while Ferentinos also added an RBI single in the frame. Sophomore Meghan Hughes scored a run in the inning on a wild pitch.

Gwynedd Mercy tacked on four runs in the top of the seventh and took a 14-7 lead in the game. Clark had a two-run single in the inning for Gwynedd Mercy.

Centenary had a runner reach in the bottom of the seventh but could not get her around as Gwynedd Mercy claimed the win.

Emma Clark earned the win in the circle for the Griffins. She allowed seven runs on seven hits in six innings of work. Junior Jessica Hewitt took the loss for the Cyclones after giving up eight runs on 10 hits.

Amanda Clark led Gwynedd Mercy at the plate with three hits, three runs scored and six RBIs.

Ferentinos had three hits and two runs scored for the Cyclones while Deloughery had two hits and two RBIs. Stefura added a hit and three RBIs for Centenary.

Game Two Recap (Gwynedd Mercy Won 7-4)
Gwynedd Mercy jumped out to an early lead with a pair of runs in the top of the first inning. Amanda Clark had a two-run double to left center.

The Griffins extended its lead to 4-0 in the top of the second. Lauren Waller had an RBI triple before Amanda Clark recorded an RBI groundout.

Gwynedd Mercy tacked on three runs in the top of the third and took a 7-0 lead in the game. Rebecca Christoffers had a two run double before Waller's double allowed Christoffers to score.

The Cyclones got four of those runs back in the bottom of the fourth as Centenary sent nine batters to the plate. Deloughery delivered a two-run double to center while freshman Kayla Morales reached on an infield single that allowed Deloughery to score.

Neither team was able to score in the fifth as the game was called due to darkness and Gwynedd Mercy earned the 7-4 win.

Alexis Gartner earned the win in the circle for Gwynedd Mercy as she surrendered four runs on eight hits in five innings of work. Freshman Sandra Cosenzo took the loss for the Cyclones as she gave up four runs on five hits in two innings. Sophomore Samantha Gabriele pitched the final three innings for the Cyclones and gave up three runs on five hits.

Waller had three hits, two run scored and two RBIs for Gwynedd Mercy.

Deloughery had two hits and two RBIs while Wright also had two hits.

The Cyclones are right back at it as they travel to Delaware Valley on Tuesday, March 19 for a doubleheader starting at 3 p.m.
