Softball Splits on Final Day of Spring Break Trip

MYRTLE BEACH, S.C. – A 5-3 win over Lancaster Bible College allowed the Centenary University softball team to split its two games on the Cyclones' final day of the Fast Pitch Spring Dreams Classic in Myrtle Beach.

Centenary fell to Mount Aloysius College by a 10-3 margin in game one but bounced back to earn the win over Lancaster Bible.

The Cyclones jumped out to an early lead in this one as junior Justine Stefura delivered a two-out single to left in the top of the first that scored junior Juli Wright.

The Mounties tied the game in the bottom of the third as Kara Pisczek had an RBI triple to left center.

A four-run fourth inning extended the Mount Aloysius lead to 5-1. Abby Reitz had a two-run single in the frame.

Centenary got two runs back in the top of the fifth inning. Stefura had an RBI ground out that scored sophomore Meghan Hughes before sophomore Courtney Deloughery plated sophomore Tessa Ferentinos with a single to left field.

Mount Aloysius scored five runs in the bottom of the fifth to secure the 10-3 win. Reitz drew a bases loaded walk to force in a run while Pisczek had an RBI single as well.

Pisczek earned the win in the circle as she went 6.2 for Mount Aloysius and gave up the three runs on eight hits. Junior Jessica Hewitt took the loss after surrendering five runs on six hits in four innings of action.

Pisczek had two hits and two RBIs for Mount Aloysius while Caroline Showalter finished with two hits and two runs scored.

Deloughery led the Cyclones with two hits while Stefura recorded two RBIs.

The Cyclones found themselves down early as Kendra Brown had a two-run single for the Chargers in the bottom of the first inning.

Centenary got one of those runs back in the top of the third as Hughes lifted a sacrifice fly to right field.

Lancaster Bible extended its lead to 3-1 in the bottom of the third as Brown registered her third RBI of the day with a single.

Centenary began its comeback in the fourth as freshman Kayla Morales reach on an error that allowed Deloughery to score on the play.

In the top of the fifth inning, the Cyclones took a 4-3 lead as Ferentinos and Deloughery delivered RBI singles.

Centenary tacked on one more run in the top of the sixth as Hughes recorded an RBI groundout.

Hewitt picked up the win in the circle as she allowed just three runs and struck out five in the complete game effort. Nicole DeKok took the loss for Lancaster Bible as she gave up three runs on six hits in 3.2 innings of work.

Wright went 3-for-3 at the plate to lead the Cyclones. Deloughery finished with two hits, a run scored and an RBI while Hughes drove in a pair.

DeKok had three hits and two runs scored for Lancaster Bible while Brown drove in three runs with two hits.

The Cyclones will be back in action on Monday, March 18 when they play host to Gwynedd Mercy in a doubleheader starting at 3 p.m.
