Deloughery's Three RBIs Lead Softball to Split of Wednesday's Action

MYRTLE BEACH, S.C. – Sophomore Courtney Deloughery drove in three runs against Franciscan College to lead the Centenary University softball team to a split of its two games at the Fast Pitch Spring Dreams Classic on Wednesday.

Centenary bested Franciscan by a 5-4 score and fell to La Roche 7-3.

The Cyclones got the bats going early against Barons with three runs in the top of the first. Junior Justine Stefura drove a one-out single to right field that scored sophomore Meghan Hughes. Deloughery followed that with a single to left field, which scored Ferentinos. Stefura scored the third run of the inning on junior Jessica Hewitt's single to left.

Franciscan made it a one-run game on Chloe Cross' two-run double to left field in the second inning.

Deloughery gave the Cyclones a 4-2 lead in the top of the third as her single to left field scored junior Juli Wright.

The Barons pulled to within one, 4-3 as Allyson Weiss lifted a sacrifice fly to center in the fifth.

Centenary extended its lead to 5-3 in the top of the seventh as Deloughery hit a two-out single down the left field line, which scored Ferentinos.

Franciscan made it a one-run game in the bottom of the seventh as Cross had an RBI single. However, Hewitt got the final two outs of the frame to preserve the victory.

Hewitt earned the win in the circle for the Cyclones as she gave up four runs on six hits in the complete game effort. Andi Queen took the loss for Franciscan after surrendering five runs on 11 hits in seven innings.

Deloughery had a season-high three hits and three RBIs for the Cyclones while Ferentinos and Stefura each had two hits.

Cross led Franciscan with two hits and three RBIs.

La Roche Recap
La Roche jumped out to an early lead with six runs in the bottom of the second inning. Kaylee Grassmyer and Alexis Medva each had two run singles in the inning for the Redhawks.

Centenary got two of those runs back in the top of the third as Hughes and Stefura delivered RBI singles.

Stefura picked up her second RBI of the game as her single to right in the fifth inning scored Hughes.

La Roche tacked on a run in the bottom of the fifth and claimed the 7-3 victory.

Grassmyer earned the win in the circle after giving up three runs on nine hits. Freshman Sandra Cosenzo took the loss after giving up six runs in 1.1 innings of work.

Medva led La Roche with three hits, two runs and two RBIs.

Hughes had three hits for the Cyclones while Stefura recorded two hits and two RBIs.

The Cyclones wrap up their spring training trip by taking on Mount Aloysius and Lancaster Bible on Thursday, March 14.
