Volleyball Closes out 2019 Season With Tri-Match Split

HACKETTSTOWN, N.J. – The Centenary University volleyball team split its final tri-match of the season on Saturday afternoon.

The Cyclones picked up their first win of the season with a 3-0 victory over York (N.Y.) before falling 3-0 to Notre Dame (Md.) in Colonial States Athletic Conference (CSAC) action.

Prior to the start of the Notre Dame match, the Cyclones honored seniors Ariel Skye Ron, Brielle Gensinger, Storm Spooner and Melissa Krueger for their contributions to the program.

York (N.Y.) recap
The first set against the Cardinals was a back-and-forth affair. York took a 16-13 lead on a service ace before the Cyclones battled back and took a 17-16 edge. Krueger had a kill and a service ace during that run. With the set tied at 19-19, Centenary scored six of the next seven points for a 25-20 set win.

Centenary jumped out to a 13-9 lead in the second set on a service ace from sophomore Amelia Rodriguez. The Cyclones pushed that lead to 17-13 on a kill from junior Leandra Garcia. The two teams continued to battle before a kill from Emerald Richard gave the Cyclones a 25-19 set win.

The Cyclones opened up a 9-5 lead in the third set on a service ace from Garcia. Three service aces from Richard pushed the Centenary advantage to 22-12. The Cyclones eventually claimed a 25-15 set win and victory in the match.

Richard paced the Cyclones with 10 kills, five service aces and five digs. Krueger contributed seven kills, 15 assists, four service aces and eight digs while Rodriguez had 14 assists and five service aces.

Chrissy Hobson led York with seven kills and six digs.

Notre Dame (Md.) recap
Gensinger and Krueger each had five digs to lead the Cyclones against Notre Dame.

The Gators won the sets by 25-12, 25-9 and 25-12 margins en route to the 3-0 victory.

In addition to her five digs, Krueger added two kills and three assists for the Cyclones. Rodriguez had four assists and four digs while Richard had three kills and three blocks.

Kayleigh Davis led Notre Dame with 12 kills and seven digs.
