Bossert's Big Day Powers Women's Basketball Over Wilson

CHAMBERSBURG, Pa. – Freshman Taylor Bossert scored a season-high 17 points to lead the Centenary University women's basketball team to a 57-49 victory at Wilson College on Saturday afternoon in Colonial States Athletic Conference (CSAC) action.

Bossert's performance highlighted a balanced attack from the Cyclones as eight different players scored at least one point and all ten players who saw time contributed something on the stats sheet.

Sophomore Danika Brandt's second three-pointer of the game gave the Cyclones a 9-4 lead at the 5:45 mark of the first quarter.

The two teams traded baskets as a triple from Bossert made it a 14-9 game with 1:31 showing on the clock.

Wilson sunk a late free throw as Centenary took a 14-10 lead after 10 minutes of play.

Back-to-back three-pointers from freshman Victoria Jacobs at the start of the second quarter pushed the Centenary lead to 20-12 with 7:23 to go before the half.

Junior Katie Alvarez hit a fastbreak lay-up at 2:47 which gave the visitors a 27-14 advantage.

A lay-up from Jacobs with 56 seconds to go in the period gave Centenary a 29-19 lead at the half.

Wilson scored five of the first seven points in the third quarter and made it a 31-24 game with 6:52 showing on the clock.

Centenary responded with a 5-1 run of its own and took a 35-25 lead with 2:47 to go in the stanza.

The two teams battled on each end of the court as Bossert's three-pointer with one second left gave Centenary a 40-32 lead with 10 minutes to play.

Wilson scored five of the first seven points in the fourth quarter and cut the Centenary lead to five, 42-37 with 7:21 to go in the game.

Centenary scored nine of the next 12 points in the contest and pushed its lead to 51-40 with 2:51 to play. Freshman Jessica McKenzie connected on a pair of buckets during that scoring run.

The two teams battled over the final two and a half minutes as pair of late free throws from Bossert sealed the 57-49 win for the Cyclones.

Centenary shot 41.9 percent from the field in the contest and made nine three-pointers. The Cyclones were also 12-for-16 from the foul line in the game. Wilson posted a 35.4 field goal percentage in the contest and made seven three-pointers. The Phoenix were just 8-for-17 from the charity stripe. Wilson edged the Cyclones 28-27 in the rebounding battle.

Bossert added four assists and four rebounds to go with her season-high in points. Jacobs contributed 10 points for the Cyclones while McKenzie had eight rebounds and six points.

Lindsey Purvis led Wilson with 16 points, six rebounds and five steals in the contest.

Centenary is back in action when it travels to Clarks Summit on Tuesday, Jan. 8 for a 7 p.m. game.
