HACKETTSTOWN, N.J. – A pair of second half goals allowed the Centenary University women's soccer team to open Colonial States Athletic Conference (CSAC) play with a 2-0 victory over Cedar Crest College on Saturday afternoon.
Both teams had chances in the first 45 minutes but neither was able to dent the scoreboard. The Cyclones took seven shots while the Falcons registered three shots. Cedar Crest goalkeeper
Morgan Maddock made one save in the first half while freshman
Rachel Colt was not forced to make a stop.
The Cyclones got on the board at 67:19 as junior
Stephanie Williams took a pass from freshman
Amanda Lebelt and punched it home for her team-leading fourth goal of the year.
Centenary added to its lead at 75:09 as seniors
Amanda Benoit and
Kara LaPolice connected. Benoit scored her third goal of the year off a pass from LaPolice.
Those goals proved to be enough as Centenary earned the 2-0 victory.
Colt made one save in the second half to lead the Cyclones to their second shutout in the last three games and earned the win in goal. Maddock made nine saves in the loss for Falcons.
The Cyclone defense did a nice job of locking down Cedar Crest as the Falcons were limited to just seven shots in the game and only one of those was on goal.
Centenary out shot Cedar Crest 21-7 and held a 6-1 advantage in corner kicks.
The Cyclones are back in action as they host New York University under the lights on Tuesday, Sept. 25 at Hackettstown High School. First touch in the game is scheduled for 7 p.m.
