Women's Soccer Stumbles Versus Drew

HACKETTSTOWN, N.J. – Freshman Rachel Colt made a career-high 11 saves but it was not enough as the Centenary University women's soccer team fell to Drew University in the final match of the Cyclone Kickoff Classic on Saturday.

The Rangers scored three goals in the first half and added one in the second stanza to secure the 4-0 victory.

Alexis Castanheira scored the first of her two goals on the day in the fourth minute off as pass from Sarah Racine to give the visitors an early lead. Alex Gilgorri and Mary Laut also scored in the first stanza for the Rangers.

Both teams had their chances in the second half as Drew took 11 shots while the Cyclones ripped off nine shots. However, the only goal in the second 45 minutes came from Castanheira off a pass from Gilgorri.

Madison Dudziec made three saves in goal before giving way to Brielle Castanheira recorded two stops in the final 22 plus minutes of the game. Colt made five saves in the first half and six in the second stanza.

Drew held a 24-12 advantage in shots taken and the Rangers recorded all five of the game's corner kicks.

Centenary is back in action as it hits the road for the first time this fall on Wednesday, Sept. 5. The Cyclones travel to William Paterson for a 7 p.m. game.
