ROSEMONT, Pa. – The Centenary University softball team scored a combined 27 runs in a doubleheader sweep of Rosemont College in Colonial States Athletic Conference (CSAC) action on Sunday afternoon.
The Cyclones took game one by a 15-3 score and completed the sweep with a 12-3 victory in the nightcap.
Game One Recap (Centenary Won 15-3)
Senior
Carolyn Clites got things started for the Cyclones in the first inning as she laced an triple to right field which scored senior
Ashely Eisenstein. Clites then crossed the plate on a double from sophomore
Jessica Hewitt. Hewitt scored the third run of the inning on sophomore
Juli Wright's RBI single.
Rosemont responded with three runs of its own in the bottom of the first and tied the game at 3-3.
The Cyclones were not done yet as they sent eight players to plate and scored four runs. Hewitt had a two-run single in the frame and came around to score on sophomore
Justine Stefura's RBI double.
Centenary scored three runs in the sixth inning and extended its lead to 10-3. Hewitt contributed a sacrifice fly with the bases loaded before Wright and senior
Raychel Piserchia drove in runs.
The Cyclones closed out the scoring with five runs in the top of the seventh en route to the 15-3 win. Sophomore
Imani Lugo and Clites each had RBI singles before Piserchia had a two-run double and senior
Sammie Darling tacked on an RBI single.
Darling picked up the win in the circle after giving up three runs on six hits in five innings of work.
Autumn Sharkey took the loss after giving up 15 runs in seven innings of work.
Eisenstein went 4-for-5 with four runs scored out of the leadoff spot while Clites was 3-for-4 with three runs scored and two RBIs. Hewitt contributed two hits, two runs scored and four RBIs.
Colleen Hall and
Madison Hagerty each had two hits for the Ravens.
Game Two Recap (Centenary Won 12-3)
The Cyclones turned in a big first inning to start game two as 13 runners went to the plate and the visitors scored seven runs. Clites contributed a two run double and an RBI single in the inning. Stefura had an RBI double while Eisenstein and freshman
Tessa Ferentinos each had an RBI single and a run scored.
Centenary pushed its lead to 12-0 with five runs in the top of the third. Stefura had a two run single before Darling and freshman
Courtney Deloughery each recorded an RBI single.
Rosemont struck for three runs in the fourth inning but that was all the Ravens could manage as Centenary claimed the 12-3 win.
Darling picked up her second win of the day after giving up no runs on one hit in two innings of work. Freshman
Samantha Gabriele tossed three innings of relief work.
Christina Broccolino took the loss after giving up five runs while not getting an out.
Ferentinos led the Cyclones with three hits and two runs scored while Clites contributed two hits, two runs scored and two RBIs. Stefura added two hits, two runs scored and three RBIs.
Lena Buccigrossi led Rosemont with two hits and two RBIs.
The Cyclones are back in action when they travel to the College of Saint Elizabeth for a doubleheader at 3 p.m.
