HACKETTSTOWN, N.J. – Marywood University scored the final three goals of the game to secure a 7-4 victory over the Centenary University men's lacrosse team on Saturday afternoon in in Colonial States Athletic Conference (CSAC) action.
Senior
Nolan Gottshall gave the Cyclones an early lead with his 21st goal of the season at 6:04 of the first quarter.
Marywood responded with three straight goals and took a 3-1 lead after 15 minutes of play.
The Pacers struck for the only goal of the second quarter with 41 seconds on the clock and took a 4-1 lead at the half. The second quarter tally came off the stick of
Matt Casto for Marywood.
The Cyclones cut their deficit to one, 4-3 with a pair of third quarter goals. Gottshall struck for his second of the day off a pass from sophomore
Chris Howell before freshman
Kyle Mott found the back of the net off with junior
Chris Snow picking up the helper.
Gottshall scored his third goal of the day at 12:24 of the fourth quarter and that tied the game at 4-4. However that was the last goal of the day for the Cyclones.
Marywood scored the go ahead goal at 10:08 and added two more goals in the final three minutes of the game for the 7-4 victory.
Vinny Biancardi made seven saves to earn the win in goal for the Pacers. Freshman
Wayne Safreed made six stops in the loss for the Cyclones.
Marywood held a 27-24 edge in shots and grabbed one more ground ball than the Cyclones (18-17). Both teams won seven faceoffs in the game.
Casto and
Rob Maini each had two goals and an assist to lead the Pacers.
Gottshall posted his fifth hat trick of the season to lead Centenary and added two caused turnovers and a ground ball. Howell contributed an assist, all seven faceoff wins and three ground balls for the Cyclones.
On the defensive end, senior
Spencer Stachowiak led the Cyclones with three caused turnovers and two ground balls.
The Cyclones are back in action on Saturday, April 14 when they travel to No. 5 Cabrini for a 1 p.m. game.
