DENVILLE, N.J. – Sophomore
Jon Fleck had three hits as the Centenary University baseball team fell in both games of its Colonial States Athletic Conference (CSAC) doubleheader against Gwynedd Mercy University.
The Griffins took both games by a 12-1 score.
Game One Recap (Gwynedd Mercy wins 12-1)
Gwynedd Mercy took an early lead in game one with a run in the bottom of the first inning.
The Cyclones responded with a run in the top of the second and tied the game at 1-1. Senior
Mike Dolan had an RBI double down the left field line which scored fellow senior
Kevin Sensale, who had reached on a single.
The Griffins then scored 11 runs between the third and sixth innings.
Ryan Keen drove in six runs for Gwynedd Mercy during that stretch, he had a three run triple to right center in the fourth and a three run double to left center in the fifth inning.
Gwynedd Mercy claimed the 12-1 victory in the CSAC opener for both squads.
Mike Di Ianni earned the win on the mound for the Griffins. He tossed the complete game and allowed just one run on five hits with four strikeouts. Junior
Casey Brown took the loss after giving up six runs on seven hits in four innings of work.
Keen led Gwynedd Mercy at the plate as he was 2-for-4 with six RBIs while
Sachael Sciarretta was 2-for-4 with two RBIs and four runs scored out of the leadoff spot.
Fleck led Centenary with two hits while Dolan had a hit and RBI and Sensale added a hit and a run scored.
Game Two Recap (Gwynedd Mercy wins 12-1)
Gwynedd Mercy struck first in game two with a single run in the bottom of the third.
Centenary got on the board and tied the game at 1-1 in the top of the fourth. Senior
Tim Maxwell led off with a triple to right center and scored on Fleck's single, which also went to right center.
The Griffins went back on top with four runs in the bottom of the fourth. The big blow in that inning came off the bat of
Shaughn Wright, who had a three run home run to right field.
Gwynedd Mercy added four more runs in the sixth inning, which made it a 9-1 game. The highlight of that inning was
Evan Miller's three run home run to left center.
The Griffins added three more runs in the seventh inning which made the final score, 12-1.
Gino Tripodi earned the win in game two as he went six innings and gave up just one run on three hits for the Griffins. Senior
James Graziani took the loss for the Cyclones after giving up seven runs in five innings of work.
Sciarretta went 2-for-4 with three RBIs for Gwynedd Mercy.
Maxwell had a hit and a run scored for the Cyclones while Fleck finished with a hit and an RBI.
The Cyclones will be back in action when they visit Keystone on Tuesday, April 10 at 3 p.m.
