Clites Powers Cyclones to Doubleheader Split with Cedar Crest

HACKETTSTOWN, N.J. – Senior Carolyn Clites drove in a career-high seven runs in game one to lead the Centenary University softball team to a doubleheader split with Cedar Crest College on Thursday afternoon. The Cyclones took game one by a 13-9 mark behind Clites' big day at the plate. The Falcons bounced back and won game two by an 11-3 score.

The Colonial States Athletic Conference (CSAC) twinbill was originally scheduled to be play at Cedar Crest on Sunday but was moved up and to Hackettstown due to the weather forecast for the weekend. The Cyclones were the away team in both games.

Game One Recap (13-9 Centenary Win)
Cedar Crest jumped out to an early 3-0 advantage with a pair of runs in the first inning and one more in the third.

The Cyclones got on the board with five runs in the top of the fifth inning. Clites double to left center scored senior Ashley Eisenstein and freshman Tessa Ferentinos with two outs. Eisenstein had reached on a double before Ferentinos walked. After a pair of walks, to sophomores Juli Wright and Justine Stefura, loaded the bases sophomore Jessica Hewitt singled and all three runners scored.

Centenary extended its lead to 7-3 with a pair of runs in the top of the sixth. Senior Raychel Piserchia walked and scored on Ferentinos' double. Clites then delivered a two-out single that scored Ferentinos.

Cedar Crest made it a 7-4 game with an RBI double off the bat of Dallas Horning in the bottom half of the sixth.

The Cyclones went back to work in the top of the seventh as Centenary sent nine batters to the plate and scored six runs on five hits. Ferentinos and Eisenstein had RBI singles before Clites hit a grand slam over the left center fence. It was Centenary's first home run of the season and Clites' sixth of her career. That gave the Cyclones' a 13-4 advantage.

Cedar Crest wasn't done as the Falcons scored five runs in the bottom of the seventh inning. Aimee Sarboukh and Molly Schnaubelt each singled to drive in a pair of runs. That cut the Centenary lead to 13-9 but the Cyclones were able to get the final outs and secure the victory.

Senior Sammie Darling picked up her third win of the season after tossing 6.2 innings of work. Breanna Young took the loss after giving up 13 runs in seven innings.

Clites went 4-for-5 with seven RBIs and two runs scored to lead Centenary. Her seven RBIs are tied for second most in single-game history at Centenary and are tied for the most by a CSAC player this season.

Eisenstein contributed three hits with two runs scored and an RBI while Ferentinos had three hits, three runs scored and two RBIs.

Schnaubelt led Cedar Crest with two hits and three RBIs.

Game Two Recap (11-3 Cedar Crest Win)
The Falcons got on the board first in game two as Schnaubelt hit a three run home run to left center.

Cedar Crest scored six times in the bottom of the third and took a 9-0 advantage in the contest. Sarboukh was one of three Falcons to record an RBI single in the inning while Danielle Krispin added an RBI double.

Centenary got one of those runs back in the fourth as Stefura scored on a wild pitch.

Cedar Crest plated two more runs in the fourth and took an 11-1 lead in the game.

Stefura had a sacrifice fly in the fifth to drive in a run in the fifth and Hewitt drove in a run with a double but Cedar Crest claimed the 11-3 win.

Kendra Pekurny earned the win in the circle after giving up three runs on five hits in five innings. Hewitt took the loss after giving up seven runs in 2.1 innings of action.

Sarboukh went 3-for-3 with two runs scored while Schnaubelt had three RBIs.

Ferentinos had two hits to lead the Cyclones while Clites had a hit and a run scored.

The Cyclones will be back in action on Saturday, April 7 as they travel to Rosemont for a doubleheader at 12 p.m.
