Cyclones Clinch CSAC Playoff Spot with 9-5 Win over Neumann

HACKETTSTOWN, N.J. – On Senior Day it was junior Chris Snow that powered the Centenary University men's lacrosse team to a 9-5 win over Neumann University in Colonial States Athletic Conference (CSAC) action.

With the win in the regular season finale the Cyclones clinched a spot in the CSAC playoffs, which begin Saturday, April 28.

The Cyclones honored their six seniors, Nolan Gottshall, Chiemela Igbokwe, Spencer Stachowiak, Kyle Purcell, Michael Muff and Nick Fox after the game.

Neumann took an early lead as Eric Conlon scored the first two goals of the game. The second goal came at 6:12 of the first quarter and was assisted by Chris Bellon.

Snow then proceeded to score the next four goals of the game. His scoring spurt bridged the first and second quarters and turned a two-goal deficit into a 4-2 lead with 6:55 to go in the second quarter.

Conlon scored his third goal of the game for the Knights at 2:51 of the second quarter.

The Cyclones took a 4-3 lead at the half.

Muff opened the third quarter scoring with a goal that was assisted by Gottshall at 14:20 of the third quarter.

Neumann scored two of the next three goals and cut the Centenary lead to 6-5 with 8:37 to play in the fourth quarter. Conlon scored both of those goals for the Knights.

Snow's fifth goal of the game, which was a man up tally, pushed the Cyclones lead back to two, 7-5 with 6:29 to go in the game.

Centenary added goals from freshman Kyle Mott and Gottshall down the stretch to secure the 9-5 victory.

Freshman Wayne Safreed held his eighth opponent of the season to single-digits on the scoreboard and made nine saves to earn the win in goal. Brendan Risley made 11 saves in the loss for Neumann.

Centenary held a 32-18 advantage in shots in the game and won 12 of 18 faceoffs.

Snow led the Cyclones with five goals and an assist for six points while Mott and Muff each had a goal and two assists for three points in the contest. Fox and Purcell led the defensive efforts with three caused turnovers each.

Conlon paced Neumann with five goals in the game.

The Cyclones will be back in action on Saturday, April 28 as they travel to No. 1 Cabrini University to open the CSAC playoffs at 1 p.m.
