Cyclones Fall to Cabrini in CSAC Semifinals

RADNOR, Pa. – Senior Nolan Gottshall and freshman Nick Biango each scored a goal as the No. 4 Centenary University men's lacrosse team fell to No. 1 Cabrini University, 24-2 in the Colonial States Athletic Conference (CSAC) semifinals on Saturday.

The Cavaliers jumped out to a 10-0 lead after the first quarter of play. Jordan Krug had three goals and an assist in the first 15 minutes of action for Cabrini.

Cabrini took a 15-0 lead at the half as Bill Morgan scored two of the Cavaliers' five goals in the second stanza.

CSAC Rookie of the Year Wayne Safreed made six saves in the first half for the Cyclones.

Kyle Tucker had three goals and two assists in the third period as Cabrini stretched its lead to 21-0.

Gottshall opened the fourth quarter scoring with his team leading 28th goal of the season at the 13:48 mark.

Cabrini scored three more goals before Biango deposited one in the back of the net for his third goal of the year. Biango's goal made the final score 24-2.

Riley White made four first half saves to earn the win in goal for Cabrini. Leo Godfrey made one save in relief in the third while Matt Nestler made two saves in the fourth. Safreed finished with six saves in the loss for the Cyclones. Sophomore Noah Jones made two saves in the second half in relief.

Cabrini won 10 of the game's first 11 faceoffs but the Cyclones finished the game with a 15-14 edge in that category. Second Team All-CSAC faceoff man Chris Howell won 14 of the 15 faceoffs for the Cyclones and finished the year with 167 faceoff wins which ranks second in single-season history at Centenary.

Tucker led Cabrini with three goals and three assists for six points while Krug contributed three goals and two assists for five points.

Gottshall added three ground balls to go with his goal while Howell had 11 ground balls to go with his faceoff wins.

The Cyclones lose Gottshall, Spencer Stachowiak, Kyle Purcell, Nick Fox, Michael Muff and Chiemela Igbokwe to graduation. Head coach Matthew Klank will return Safreed, Howell and All-CSAC Honorable Mention selection Chris Snow next spring.
