HACKETTSTOWN, N.J. – Immaculata University swept a doubleheader from the Centenary University softball team on Saturday afternoon in Colonial States Athletic Conference (CSAC) play.
The Mighty Macs took game one by an 11-1 scored and secured a 7-0 win in the nightcap.
Game One Recap (Immaculata Won 11-1)
Immaculata got off to a quick start in game one with four runs in the first inning and two runs in the second inning for a 6-0 advantage.
Michaela Petito had a two run single in the first inning while
Annemarie Bartow hit a two run home run in the second to highlight the early action.
The Mighty Macs extended their lead to 11-0 with five runs in the top of the fourth inning.
Sydney Sturgill cleared the bases with a double to left field in the frame.
The Cyclones put a run on the board in the bottom of the fourth. Senior
Raychel Piserchia led off with a triple and scored on senior
Sammie Darling's infield single.
Immaculata got five strong innings from Petito in the circle. She gave up just one run on eight hits while striking out five. Darling suffered the loss after giving up four runs on four hits. Sophomore
Jessica Hewitt tossed 4.2 innings of relief work for the Cyclones.
Sturgill led Immaculata at the plate as she went 2-for-3 with a run scored and four RBIs while Bartow was 2-for-2 with three runs scored and three RBIs.
Piserchia led Centenary as she was 2-for-2 with a run scored while Darling had two hits and an RBI.
Game Two Recap (Immaculata Won 7-0)
Immaculata put five runs on the board in the second inning to grab the early lead in game two. The big blow in that inning came off the bat of
Ashley Rey who drove in three runs with a double to center field.
Bartow made it a 6-0 game with an RBI single in the fourth.
Immaculata got one run in the sixth inning as
Renee DeAngelis had an RBI single.
Emma Bischoff picked up the win in game two as she gave up just two hits in seven innings of work. Darling gave up seven runs in seven innings for the Cyclones.
Abigail Carter was 2-for-4 with two runs scored for the Mighty Macs while Rey had a hit and three RBIs.
Sophomores
Juli Wright and
Justine Stefura each had a hit for the Cyclones.
The Cyclones were scheduled to face FDU Florham on Sunday, April 15 but that game has been postponed due to rain in the forecast. Centenary will now be back in action on Wednesday, April 18 when it travels to Montclair State for a doubleheader at 3 p.m.
