Quick Start Leads Cyclones to a 10-7 Win Over Rosemont

HACKETTSTOWN, N.J. – Senior Nolan Gottshall recorded the 100th point of his career as the Centenary University men's lacrosse team earned a 10-7 win over Rosemont College on Saturday afternoon to open Colonial States Athletic Conference (CSAC) play.

The Cyclones, who were setting foot on the field for the first time since March 5, received hat tricks from Gottshall, freshman Kyle Mott and junior Chris Snow.

Centenary got out to a hot start in the game, scoring seven goals in the first period of play. The Cyclones opened with back-to-back goals from Snow, the two tallies were separated by just 14 seconds. Mott then struck for the natural hat trick with three straight goals. All three of Mott's goals were assisted by Snow. Mott then returned the favor and picked up the helper on Snow's third goal of the game.

Gottshall closed out the first period scoring with an unassisted tally at 3:43.

Rosemont responded with a 4-0 run that bridged the second and third quarters and pulled the Ravens to within three, 7-4 with 6:38 to go in the third.

Gottshall recorded his 100th career point with an unassisted goal at 2:42 of the third quarter. Rosemont responded with a goal at 1:35 and the Cyclones led 8-5 with 15 minutes to play.

Centenary opened the fourth quarter with goals from sophomore Chris Howell and Gottshall. The Cyclones held a 10-5 advantage with 11:54 to play.

The Ravens struck for two goals in the final eight minutes of the game but it was not enough as Centenary claimed the 10-7 victory.

Freshman Wayne Safreed made 14 saves to earn the win in goal for the Cyclones. Mark Porter made 19 saves in the loss for Rosemont.

The Cyclones held a 55-26 advantage in shots in the game and won 14 of the game's 20 faceoffs.

Snow led the Cyclones with six points on three goals and three assists and added seven ground balls. Mott contributed four points on three goals and one assists while Gottshall added six ground balls and two caused turnovers to go with his three goals.

Seniors Kyle Purcell and Spencer Stachowiak were impressive on the defensive end. Purcell finished with six caused turnovers and three ground balls while Stachowiak contributed four caused turnovers and four ground balls.

Dylan Hummel led Rosemont with two goals and two assists.

The Cyclones are back in action on Wednesday, March 28 when they travel to Gwynedd Mercy for a 3:30 p.m. game.
